LudoTruck: The Verdict
Call it sacrilege, but until today I had never dined from a food truck. Clarification: I’ve spent many a drunken night wavering in front of the originators of the mobile food craze: your usual Mexican taco truck. But these fancy gourmet eateries that litter the sidewalks of trendy neighborhoods, with their witty names and flashy chrome? I’ve resisted. Till now.
What was it that finally struck down my staunch opposition? Chef Ludo Lefebvre and his damn fried chicken.

This week marked the roving restaurant’s official launch outside of private parties and festival events. And when the office heard word that it was berthing in Santa Monica for Tuesday’s lunch crowd? We arrived at 11am sharp, second in line.

We tried a bit of everything (except the fries…they forgot all 6 orders of em), and I find myself now in the unproductive throes of a food coma.

The fried chicken sandwich wasn’t bad. 7 out of 10. The chicken was overpowered by the (amazing) coleslaw that topped it, and hidden between a giant (delicious) bun. The fried chicken lacked the grease and moistness that I come to expect after years of grubbing on Honey’s Kettle, so I was a tad disappointed.
The winners of the meal were the fried chicken balls (oh, the lame puns that flew back and forth at the lunch table), brined for 3 days and encased in crunchy deep-fried goodness. They provided a rainbow of sauces, all delish. It was hard not to eat the entire order. 9 out of 10
What won the perfect 10? Their honey-laced, sticky sweet, fresh out of the oven biscuits. Pastry perfection. I need not say more.

Try it for yourself. Stalk the truck here.
